A beautifully, well written debut novel - I can't wait to see what Veronica Roth comes up with next.Įllie is just like any other normal teenage girl until on her seventeenth birthday her power gets awaken by a mysterious guy she just met, Will, allowing her to kill creatures known as reapers who prey on human souls. Tris has to struggle through a lot on her own and she doesn't seem like a strong, powerful character - she's not magical or psychically strong or skilled in anything - but she figures out how to overcome her obstacles in her own, unique way that makes the reader root for her. For Beatrice, aka Tris, it's not a easy choice and when it's her turn to choose Tris quickly realizes that maybe everything and everyone isn't what it seems. On a certain day every year, all 16-year-olds must choose a faction they will devote the rest of their lives to. I hope people aren't sick of dystopian novels already because I absolutely loved this book and think anyone could enjoy it if they checked it out.ĭivergent is set in Chicago in a dystopian future where society is divided into five factions and each is dedicated to a certain virtue: honesty, selfless, bravery, peaceful, and the learned.
